Graduated in 2021 from ESMA Montreal, Oussama is now a 3D artist at Folks VFX studio in Montreal!

WHAT WAS YOUR CAREER / Hobbies BEFORE ESMA MONTREAL?

Let me introduce myself, my name is Oussama Fetoui, I am 26 years old and I come from Tunisia. After my baccalaureate in 2014, I did a first degree in computer development, but I realized that I really preferred the world of 3D and video games. I then did a second degree in 3D animation filmmaking in Tunisia before discovering ESMA and coming to Montreal for the training in 3D animation cinema and visual effects.

WHAT FILM DID YOU WORK ON DURING YOUR PROGRAM?

During my last year, I was able to work on “Kaleidoscope” which won the 2021 jury prize.

AFTER THE TRAINING, HOW DID YOUR JOB SEARCH GO?

A month after my graduation I found my first job at Folks in Montreal!

WHY DID YOU decide to STAY IN MONTREAL?

From the beginning I chose Montreal as my destination because the best studios are based here. So I told myself that this was the place where I would have the best chance of advancing my career as a 3D animator.

IN YOUR STUDIO, WHAT IS YOUR JOB AND WHAT ARE YOUR MISSIONS?

In the studio, I hold the position of Junior 3D animator / Roto-animator.

WHAT PROJECTS HAVE YOU WORKED ON SINCE YOU STARTED AT FOLKS?

For my first shot of animation, I was able to work on episode 10 of “The Umbrella Academy 3“, available on Netflix. Then, for “The Princess“, available on Disney+, I worked on several animation and rotoanim shots and I even got to do CamTrack Ingest. Finally, I did a lot of rotoanim, animation and even ObjectTrack for season 3 of the “Motherland Fort Salem” series on Disney+ as well.

HOW DID ESMA MONTREAL’s TRAINING Help YOU IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL START?

The training at ESMA Montreal has helped me a lot, especially when it comes to teamwork. During the training and production of the film, our teachers used the same methods as in the studios, with a daily “check up” to see the progress of the project. The software we used during the training is also the same that I use in the studio, such as Autodesk Shotgrid.
